Congress releases report exposing massive Texas Medicaid fraud

Today the Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government reform released its staff report entitled, “Uncovering Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in the [Texas] Medicaid Program.”  The report focused on Texas Medicaid fraud and, in particular, the suspicious spike in spending on braces for Texas Medicaid enrollees and exposed the lack of oversight on clinics submitting those claims for payment. San Antonio braces clinic kicked out of Texas Medicaid program

Crosley Law Firm attorney testifies at legislative hearing about dental abuse

The Dallas Morning News and the Austin American-Statesman reported this week on public testimony given before the Texas House Public Health Committee on dental abuse by Crosley Law Firm attorney Charlie Gustin.  Mr. Gustin shared the story of one Crosley Law Firm client who received 20 baby root canals and 20 steel crowns in 38 minutes at the Smile Center.   The dental abuse testimony also revealed that the dentist who performed the excessive work has been the subject of multiple dental abuse related complaints in Texas and other states for. The Crosley Law Firm and local TV station prevail in lawsuit filed by the Smile Center

Today a Bexar County district judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Smile Center against the Crosley Law Firm, News 4 WOAI, and television reporter Brian Collister for making allegedly defamatory statements surrounding their Medicaid dental practice.  The lawsuit, which sought $50 million in damages, was filed after numerous television news stories and interviews exposed the Smile Center’s ongoing practice of performing unnecessary and excessive dental work on low-income children.

The Crosley Law Firm files lawsuit against the Smile Center

The San Antonio Express-News reported on the lawsuit filed earlier this week by the Crosley Law Firm against the owner and dentists of the Smile Center.  The suit, filed on behalf of 23 San Antonio children, alleges excessive and unnecessary dental treatment including baby root canals and steel crowns.  State records show the Smile Center’s six clinics collected over $55,000,000 in Medicaid dollars between 2008-2010.   The lawsuit alleges negligence, gross negligence, fraud and conspiracy.  Plaintiffs are seeking damages for their pain, suffering, mental anguish and disfigurement.

Attorney General Lauches Criminal Investigation Against The Smile Center Dental Clinics of San Antonio

Federal investigators audit Texas Medicaid program

WFAA investigative reporter Byron Harris has broken the story that federal investigators are auditing the Texas Health and Human Services Commission for the way it administers funds through the Medicaid program.  The investigators seek answers as to why Texas spent $184 million on braces last year — more than all other 49 states combined!
